Zebra mussels in Shoal Lake?

"Researchers with the Experimental Lakes are concerned, as the Province of Manitoba looks at the possibility of zebra mussels in Shoal Lake. "Now, for people on Lake of the Woods, this is a very concerning development. Zebra mussels may be in Shoal Lake, which is right next door and connected to Lake of the Woods," said Higgins."

"Le chercheur aux lacs expérimentaux de l’Institut international pour le développement durable, Scott Higgins, indique que les moules zébrées sont une espèce hautement colonisatrice. « Elles sont hautement envahissantes avec jusqu’à plus de 100 000 individus par mètre carré sur des surfaces dures comme le fond des lacs et les quais. Elles vivent environ sept ans, mais se reproduisent très vite. Chaque femelle peut produire jusqu’à un million d’œufs », précise-t-il."
