Everyone here at IISD Experimental Lakes Area is thrilled to announce that Pauline Gerrard has been officially appointed as our new Executive Director.

Pauline is certainly no stranger to these iconic 58 freshwater lakes. In fact, she has been on our team since 2014 and served as our deputy director since 2016. She was also a budding ecologist student here back in the 1990s and has harboured a great professional and personal love for the lakes ever since.

There really isn’t enough space here to list all her achievements, but they include IISD-ELA’s vibrant education and relations program that reaches thousands of students per year, working across four continents to promote freshwater health and the unparalleled science that goes down at IISD-ELA, and telling the world why we need to pollute the environment more (all in the name of science, of course!).

“I’ve seen firsthand what IISD Experimental Lakes Area can achieve,” said Pauline. “From changing environmental law across the planet to building the careers of burgeoning African women in science, I can’t wait to lead us into the next era of this critical scientific facility—and Canadian gem.”
