Damon Vis-Dunbar


Damon Vis-Dunbar is an Associate with IISD's Energy and Economic Law and Policy programs.

Damon has over 10 years' experience in the field of strategic communications and sustainable development. From 2015-17, Damon served as IISD's Director of Communication, overseeing the design, implementation and evaluation of communication activities across the Institute's offices in Canada, Switzerland and the United States. A former journalist, he has a keen interest in making complex policy issues accessible to decision makers and the broader public.

Damon has written and published frequently on economic policies and sustainable development, including as editor of Investment Treaty News. He has also been deeply involved in IISD's Global Subsidies Initiative from its inception. He has advised numerous governments on their energy sector reform plans, and has managed research programs on fossil fuel subsidies in Indonesia, India and Bangladesh. He has also conducted numerous training programs with civil society organizations and journalists around the world on environmentally harmful subsidies and sustainable energy systems.

Prior to joining IISD, Damon worked as a researcher, writer and editor for the European Commission and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development on issues related to international trade and investment. Damon was born in Canada and now lives in Switzerland.
