Yuliia Oharenko is an affiliate with IISD under the Energy Program. She has worked as an independent consultant at IISD since July 2015, contributing to projects relating to consumer and producer subsidies to fossil fuels. Yuliia works on international subsidy analysis, as well as on projects in the Caucasus countries, Eastern Europe and Russia
Previously, she worked as a research fellow/project coordinator at the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting, which is one of the leading think tanks in Ukraine. Her responsibilities covered analysis of policy developments in energy and agricultural sectors of Ukraine and development of recommendations to relevant government institutions. She covered a range of topics from “green” tariffs for renewables to government spending in the agricultural sector. Yuliia was a leading contributor to a policy-oriented research project on the estimation of consumer subsidies in gas and electricity sectors and modelling of environmental and socioeconomic consequences of energy subsidy elimination in Ukraine.
