The key to gaining international acceptance of carbon sequestration in agricultural soils and wetlands is to have a confident projection of the potential, both nationally and internationally, and an agreed methodology for determining “verifiable changes in stock".
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was tasked to prepare a Special Report on Land-Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry that will examine the implications of dealing with sinks in a limited fashion, and any additional activities including agricultural soils, for completion by May, 2000.
