The Kyoto Protocol, the international accord designed to limit emissions of greenhouse gases, allows countries to claim credits for removing gases like carbon dioxide from the atmospherethat is, claim credits for sequestering carbon. Canadian researchers are particularly interested in the potential of wetlands to sequester carbon and whether wetlands can be managed as net carbon sinks over time. The following studies advance understanding of the role wetlands may play in reducing net greenhouse emissions.
