General Information

The Hearing is taking place at the Fort Garry Place Conference Centre at 83 Garry Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Registration/Information Desk

The Registration/Information Desk is located in the Foyer on the 5th floor of the Fort Garry Place Conference Centre. This desk will be open Monday, September 30, 1996 from 7:15 to 18:00 and Tuesday, October 1 and Wednesday, October 2, 1996 from 8:00 until 18:00 to provide participants with:

  • participant kits for pre-registered participants;
  • on-site registration;
  • a message centre;
  • general information;
  • tourist information;
  • access to photocopying and facsimile services.

Communications Centre

The Communications Centre is located in the Grand Ballroom Reception Area. Computer terminals are available for access to the WCFSD's Internet site and for making electronic submissions to the Commission. Pay telephones are available in the Communications Centre.

Media Centre

The Media Centre offers the following facilities for accredited journalists:

  • a work area with tables and chairs equipped with lighting and electrical outlets;
  • one courtesy telephone designated for media purposes;
  • pay facsimile service through the on-site office;
  • a lounge area for the purposes of conducting interviews.

Cafeteria

A Cafeteria is operating during the Hearing in the Central and East Ballrooms on the 5th Floor of the Conference Centre where food service is available from 8:00 - 9:00 and from 11:30 -13:30 each day. The Cafeteria offers a simple menu of eat-in and take-out items including hot and cold beverages, muffins, soups, salads, sandwiches and fruit.

Exhibition Area

An Exhibition Area is set up in the East B Ballroom on the 5th Floor of the Conference Centre, offering space for displays and written materials related to North American forests.

Translation:

The working language of the WCFSD is English. However, during the Hearing simultaneous translation will be provided for participants speaking French and Spanish. Background documents and information material will be available in English, French and Spanish.

Accessibility:

All meeting rooms are wheelchair accessible.

These hotels are located within ten minutes walking distance of the WCFSD Hearing. Prices quoted are in Canadian dollars and do not include applicable taxes (14%). The WCFSD blocks of rooms will be held until August 29, 1996.
