IISD's Economic Policy work examined subsidies that support activities detrimental to the environment and/or the economy, derailing efforts to make development sustainable. This research led to the acclaimed publication "Perverse Subsidies: How Tax Dollars Can Undercut the Environment and the Economy." Dr. Norm Myers and Jennifer Kent address the implications of perverse subsidies in five leading sectors: agriculture, fossil fuels, road transportation, water and fisheries, and show how these subsidies undercut our economies and environments alike.
