IISD Submission to the British Columbia Carbon Tax Review

By Philip Gass, David Sawyer on August 30, 2012

British Columbia has undertaken a review of its current carbon tax structure.

IISD offered this submission during the open comment period to offer its support for the carbon tax, analyze its economic and environmental impacts and highlight policy drivers that should be taken into consideration due to their ability to affect climate change policy going forward. British Columbia's carbon tax is an effective and efficient policy that has reduced emissions and promoted low-carbon development, but challenges to continued policy success are emerging and therefore we offer support for maintaining it at its current rate while suggesting ways in which British Columbia can strengthen its provincial greenhouse gas mitigation policy.
