Clean Energy Investment in Developing Countries: Domestic barriers and opportunities in South Africa

South Africa is one of a handful of fast-growing developing countries whose future energy path will be critical in determining the success of global efforts to address climate change. As such, it is important to understand what obstacles might exist to the sort of clean energy investment that could serve both environmental and economic goals in the country. This paper surveys the current state of South Africa's energy regime, and identifies a number of barriers and opportunities in the area of clean energy investment.
