Integrated Management of the Nelson-Churchill Basin

This initiative of our Water Innovation Centre attempts to develop a stronger and more integrated understanding of the Nelson-Churchill combined watersheds and their benefits regionally and beyond.

This initiative of our Water Innovation Centre attempts to develop a stronger and more integrated understanding of the Nelson-Churchill combined watersheds and their benefits regionally and beyond.

In recent years, understanding of the Lake Winnipeg Basin has grown considerably in the Canadian Prairies; however, understanding is less well-developed downstream of Lake Winnipeg in the Nelson and Churchill watersheds and in the Nelson estuary. With considerable economic development and industry (hydro, mining, forestry, tourism, fishing), as well as social and environmental considerations, this work will focus on illustrating best practices in large basin management; summarizing scientific, governance and socioeconomic information and data on the basins; and exploring potential management approaches that may improve overall environmental and socioeconomic health and well-being in the region.
