What might be the broader economic, social and environmental impacts of European Union policies related to land use?
Following recent decisions by the European Commission, all EC policies are now subject to formal impact assessments. The European Union-Framework Programme 6 Integrated Project, SENSOR, has been designed to develop science-based ex-ante Sustainability Impact Assessment Tools (SIAT) to support decision-making on policies related to multifunctional land use in European regions. As one of more than 20 partner institutions, IISD is assisting with the development of social indicators to be used in these tools. The project started in December 2004 and will be completed in November 2008.
