In his opening address, Dr. Fritz Häni, INFASA co-chair, of the Swiss College of Agriculture, explores "culture" as an often unexpressed element of agriculture. Paul Klee's paintings, such as "Agricultural research station for late autumn," provide stimulating visuals during the address. Participants gather to look at poster presentations and converse during a break.

A guided tour of the Zentrum Paul Klee provides Symposium participants with a brief intermission before lunch. Designed by Renzo Piano, the centre is shaped like rolling hills to seamlessly connect with the surrounding landscape. Symposium participants and outside guests gather in the Zentrum Paul Klee auditorium for an evening concert of classical flute and harpsichord inspired by Paul Klee.

Renowned musicians Kaspar Zehnder (flute) and Jörg Ewald Dähler (harpsichord) are poised to begin an evening concert entitled "In Klees Garten – Sustainable Music Impressions." In addition to classical pieces by Bach and Takemitsu, an original composition by J.E. Dähler was performed. Dr. Häni adds inspiration to the evening in his opening remarks. A sub-group of workshop participants meet in the Kaefigturm to discuss one of four working group topics, "Capacity Building and Communication."
