IISD Internships

International opportunities for exceptional young Canadians

What's New in our Internship Programs?

  • Supporting the Next Generation of Sustainability Leadership (PDF - 600 kb)
This paper presents the results of IISD's 2008 survey of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) members' training programs for ages 20-35. It serves as the foundation document for a workshop on Supporting the Next Generation of Sustainability Leadership at IUCN Congress 2008 aimed at exploring collaborative possibilities to shape future training programs by reviewing existing programs, highlighting key issues and identifying the possible next steps.

The goal of IISD's diverse internship programming is to provide young Canadian professionals with the knowledge, skills, resources and experience necessary to advance sustainable development and good governance, and to champion information and communications technologies for development (ICT4D).

Since 1997, IISD has placed nearly 400 interns with dozens of leading organizations in almost 50 countries—developed and developing. Our interns have worked everywhere from the pristine and vast lands of the Arctic to the culturally rich and tropical forests of East Africa!

IISD internships not only help young professionals develop the skills needed for an international career, they also foster the development of leadership and global citizenship—supporting young Canadians who want to become effective agents of change, at home and abroad.

If you are a young Canadian, with a global perspective, who seeks to improve your skills through practical overseas opportunities in sustainable development and related areas, we would be happy to hear from you!
