Between knowing and doing, there is a critical gap, a raging river with a swift current eager to carry programs of light weight far downstream. Crossing this river requires a connection of sorts, a bridge made up of knowledge, experience, practice and healthy doses of perseverance and optimism. Without that solid footing it is too easy for organizations to slip into activities that lack focus and purpose aside from raising public awareness and alarm.
Sustainable development requires crossing that gap with proactive policies that will bring about vital global change. Knowledge must be translated into a plan of action. And policy is how that plan will be implemented. The International Institute for Sustainable Development's unique role in the global plan for sustainable development is in the development of that critical policy. We are not a think-tank, we are not a do-tank, but a think-before-you-do tank. We go past “the problem” to provide the innovative solutions so urgently required. And the impact we expect from our work is a sustainably developed world.
“…we are moving past the talk of what we face, to discussion about how best to move forward to ensure economic vitality, human well-being and a healthy environment.”
Dan Gagnier, Chairman, IISD
The International Institute for Sustainable Development is launching an international campaign to raise $5 million to make this happen. A not-for-profit research institution, IISD is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with offices in Ottawa, Geneva, New York and soon in Beijing. With over a decade and a half of international experience, we have sustainable development policies and knowledge that is critical for the global decision-makers that will direct our future.
We have a sustainable plan for the planet. We need you to help us achieve it.
Our three major emphases for this campaign phase include Climate Change, Training Young Professionals for Sustainable Development and Innovation.
