Vital, New Priorities for Phase II of Our Capital Campaign
Energized by the generosity of corporate and individual donors since the International Institute for Sustainable Development's Bridging the Gap between Knowing and Doing Campaign began in December 2007, our private sector goal for Phase II is now CND$5 million.
When it comes to true, sustainable global change, there is a gap between knowing and doing that is capable of carrying worthy ideas and solutions far downstream. Crossing this gap requires a strong, sturdy bridge made of equal parts expertise and experience, supported by pillars of perseverance, commitment and hope. Sustainable development demands the successful bridging of this gap through enlightened, proactive policies and a realistic action plan to bring about lasting change the world over.
From Individual to Corporate Our Donors Make the Difference
Manitoba Hydro, the Royal Bank of Canada's RBC Foundation, the Winnipeg Foundation and Genome Canadaare just a few of the distinguished corporate donors who have contributed to the IISD Campaign. This spirit of generosity, together with donations from individuals across Canada and beyond, is continually enhanced and enriched by contributions from members of IISD staff and associates, our Board of Directors and by our young professionals' alumni.
"We're showing the world that IISD is an organization that cares about the work it does and that we do, indeed, lead by example," said Charles Loewen, Campaign Chair. "And in return, the world is showing IISD just how vital and valued our work in sustainable development is."

The Water Innovation Centre (WIC)
Water is essential for virtually all life on earth. Yet it remains a critically-stressed global resource. That is why there is an urgent need to link markets and environmental technologies with community-based, basin management.
Not constrained by jurisdictional boundaries or limited mandates, the Institute is uniquely positioned and qualified to establish an integrated basin strategy for the benefit of all concerned—including Manitoba Water Stewardship, Lake Winnipeg Stewardship Board, International Joint Commission, Environment Canada and Agriculture Canada. Sustainability Leadership Innovation Centre (SLIC)
Since the IISD Youth Internship Program began over 10 years ago, over 300 young Canadians have been placed with such respected organizations and agencies as the United Nations Division for Sustainable Development, the University of the Arctic, the African Institute of Corporate Citizenship, Conservation Mexico and the World Wildlife Fund among others. Often our staff and associates come up with innovative ideas and approaches to sustainability. Firmly rooted in the notion that Innovation + Imagination = Realization, IISD established The Innovation Fund to help turn these exciting, new ideas into reality. Community Initiatives
Chief among the projects of IISD's Community Initiatives Fund is the development of a system of community indicators for Winnipeg. In partnership with the United Way of Winnipeg, it will measure and report on progress in the quality of life of the city's population. More...
