Policy-makers and influencers need reliable data on which to base their decisions and actions. All too frequently, data are missing or not compiled in a useful way. Often, the way data are presented and the consequent analysis result in conflicting and/or divergent policies, thus creating a policy implementation nightmare—especially in countries with limited resources.
A Poverty Ecosystem Service (PES) Report would provide an integrated view and hopefully a more solid footing for decision-making. It will help policy-makers to target vulnerable populations located in specific spatial locations. In other words, the PES will identify problem spots within countries. Therefore, in contrast to standard reports, which are used more commonly for comparing performances across countries using aggregated statistics, the PES is more focused on poor populations in vulnerable ecosystems.
