The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) is a four-year scientific assessment carried out by about 1,300 natural and social scientists focussed on the consequences of ecosystem change on human well-being. IISD was involved in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment through its Senior Economist and Director of Economic Policy, Dr. Anantha Kumar Duraiappah. Dr. Duraiappah was a Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) in the development of the MA's conceptual framework report, "Ecosystems and Human Well-being." He was also a CLA for the synthesis chapter of the MA's Response Working Group as well as the Co-Chair of the MA synthesis report for the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD).
