The ideas in this issue examine many of these facets of APEC. Our first Developing Idea charts how sustainable development is being woven into the APEC process. Developing Idea #2 discusses the 'official' yet 'informal` process utilized by APEC as a way of meeting the needs of their disparate membership. In Developing Idea #3 we investigate attempts to integrate sustainable development into the trade and investment process, which is viewed by many as being flawed and unsuccessful to date. The fourth Developing Idea gives a fresh perspective on the geography of the region and the importance of the marine environment which links the member states. And, the last Developing Idea looks at APEC's sustainable cities initiative which serves as a concrete example of the on-going work and challenges of APEC. Lastly, Trend Watch investigates the growing trend of open-pen salmon farming, some of the problems being encountered and a proposed solution.
