Issue #9 - Indicators of Sustainable Development
In this issue we begin with a look at the Barometer of Sustainability, a new indicator that manages to communicate highly complex and aggregated information using a single, easy-to-understand measurement. Our second developing idea looks at Ecological Footprints and the major tracks they are making in policy-making and planning communities everywhere. Third, we look at a number of recent SD Scenario-Building initiatives which promise to help decision-makers predict the future ecological, social and economic impacts of their decisions. We then take a look at a Native American model, the Circle of Development, which is credited with helping many economically-disenfranchised aboriginal groups to gain greater control of their lives. Finally, we look at Life Time – where we consider the pace of change at the macro and personal levels.
