A Strategic Assessment of the Kyoto-Marrakech System
In collaboration with Imperial College, the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, U.K., and the Centre for Science and Environment, India, IISD undertook an examination of the strategic aspects of the international system for addressing climate change established under the Kyoto Protocol. Specific attention was given to the implications of the U.S. withdrawal from this process. The study examined the "real world" economics of the Kyoto-Marrakesh system, business participation and influences, the prospects for U.S. re-engagement, and framing future emission limitation commitments. A synthesis report (783 kb) of the findings from this study was released in May 2003. This synthesis report was co-authored by John Drexhage, IISD's Director of Climate Change and Energy.
