Douala, Cameroon Workshop 2011

REDD+ after Cancun: Moving from negotiation to implementation

May 10–12, 2011, Douala, Cameroon

The capacity-building workshop for negotiators and stakeholders on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, plus conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+), held in Douala, Cameroon, May 10–12, 2011, aimed to:

• Explore the way forward in the international REDD+ negotiations, building on the outcomes of Cancun;
• Examine options for measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), addressing and respecting safeguards, and encouraging co-benefits;
• Explore coordination across issue areas;
• Identify priorities, strategies and opportunities for collaboration for REDD+ readiness and implementation; and
• Develop key messages for the June 2011 meetings of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The two-and-a-half day workshop offered a series of expert presentations and in-depth discussions on salient issues in the REDD+ process.
