The two other market-based instruments of the Kyoto Protocol—the Clean Development Mechanism and Joint Implementation—provide emissions reduction credit creation opportunities through investment in climate change mitigation projects in other countries. For Manitoba companies, these mechanisms will offer opportunities to export equipment and technology.
These mechanisms are designed to also provide numerous benefits to the countries in which projects are implemented. They will promote sustainable development, reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and air quality, and provide employment and investment opportunities.
