Global Environment Facility (GEF)

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) was established to forge international cooperation and finance actions to address four critical threats to the global environment: biodiversity loss, climate change, degradation of international waters, and ozone depletion. As the financial mechanism for the UNFCCC, the GEF receives guidance from the COP on policy, program priorities, and eligibility criteria related to the Convention.

World Bank

The World Bank is involved in a number of climate-related activities. The Prototype Carbon Fund (PCF), with the operational objective of mitigating climate change, aspires to promote the Bank's tenet of sustainable development, to demonstrate the possibilities of public-private partnerships, and to offer a "learning-by-doing" opportunity to its stakeholders.

Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

The OECD assesses long-term climate and sustainable development issues. Work is ongoing for climate and development priorities; and on the ancillary benefits of climate change mitigation strategies. Analysis on the linkages between energy and climate change are included in the OECD's Environmental Outlook as well as publications focusing on sustainable development. The OECD also provides a breakdown of its climate change documents by work area.

OECD/IEA Annex I Expert Group

The OECD and the International Energy Agency (IEA), through the Annex I Expert Group, support Annex I countries to build a solid and efficient international policy response to climate change. The Group's recent work covers monitoring and compliance, emission trading and project-based mechanisms, and domestic policies and measures (mitigation).

International Energy Agency (IEA)

The IEA has been mandated to provide analytical work on the energy dimension of climate change and the implications of the UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol on the energy sector.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The Energy and Atmosphere Programme includes an overview of UNDP's climate related work, including their CDM work and the UNDP Task Force

United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

UNCTAD Emissions Trading Project explores the emerging GHG emissions market.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

The Climate Change Portal is UNEP's principal gateway to the most up-to-date information on climate change. It provides access to information on greenhouse gas emissions by country, an interactive map service showing national achievements towards their Kyoto Protocol commitments; and the latest IPCC assessments

The Energy Programme addresses the environmental consequences of energy production and use, such as global climate change and local air pollution.

UNEP Collaborating Centre on Energy and Environment (UCCEE) focuses on integrating energy and environment issues into national planning and policy worldwide.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The Energy and Atmosphere Programme includes an overview of UNDP's climate related work, including their CDM work and the UNDP Task Force

United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

UNIDO' s page on their Climate Change/Kyoto Protocol activities include links to related meetings and projects and latest reports generatedthrough these activities.

International Finance Corporation (IFC)

The IFC's Environmental Projects Unit supports the development of projects that will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions under the Kyoto Protocol. Their web site offers information on carbon offset projects, developing greenhouse gas projects, and questions and answers for greenhouse gas projects

UNITED NATIONS CONVENTIONS AND TREATIES

UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)

Climate Change and Biodiversity Overview Page: The CBD web site features a section on the relationship between climate change and biodiversity, including pages on COP decisions and cooperation with the UNFCCC.

Biological diversity and climate change, including cooperation with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNEP/CBD/SBSTTA/6/11)

Brief overview of the impact of climate change on forest biological diversity (UNEP/CBD/SBSTTA/6/INF/13)

UN Convention to Combat Desertification (CCD)

Desertification, global change, and sustainable development (UNCCD fact sheet)
