Wanhua Yang is Senior Advisor for China with the Trade and Investment Strategic Objective. She currently coordinates IISD's work on the China Council project, supervising the research of the China Council Working Group on Trade and Environment. The working group, an international advisory body, aims to assist China in developing and implementing long-term, comprehensive and integrated trade and environmental policies and measures that are supportive of sustainable development.
Yang has a background of environmental law and international environmental policy. Before she joined IISD, She carried out research on comparative legal framework for environmental impact assessment, alternative dispute resolution for environmental disputes, and the role of the United Nations in the development of international environmental policy.
Yang received her Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) in environmental law (2002) and her Master of Law (LL.M) in international environment law (1994) at Indiana University, School of Law, US. She also holds a LL.M in Environmental Law (1988) from China University of Politics and Law (Beijing), and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Yunnan University (China). She is a member of the International Law Association.
