Carissa Wieler is an Associate with IISD, working primarily with our Measurement and Assessment team.
Carissa Wieler conducts research on communities of practice in sustainable development, facilitates virtual group discussion and presents internationally on sustainability indicators. From 2005 to the spring of 2007, Carissa managed the secretariat for the Canadian Sustainability Indicators Network (CSIN) at IISD. During this time, network membership grew substantively, frequently by referral, and several learning events were held that resulted in quality information sharing. Carissa has also contributed to other projects of the Measurement and Assessment program, including the development of social indicators for the Canadian Agriculture sector and substantive input to a chapter on indicators for the Global Environmental Outlook Integrated Environmental Assessment Capacity Building Manual (2007).
Currently, Carissa continues to contribute to projects within the Measurment and Assessment Program such as the Canadian Sustainability Indicators Network and the International Forum on Assessing Sustainability in Agriculture (INFASA). Carissa is also undertaking a Master's program in Integral Psychology at John F.
Kennedy University, Pleasant Hill, California, where she is exploring linkages between various streams of psychology and sustainability. Carissa is an affiliate with the Ginger Group Collaborative, a community of practice interested in collaborative enterprises.
Carissa obtained a Masters of Natural Resource Management at the University of Manitoba in 2005. Her research included multi-stakeholder processes, sustainable forest management, and Internet and Communications Technology (ICT). The theoretical basis for Carissa's thesis included transformative learning and communicative competence. Carissa also holds a B. Sc. in Environmental Science and B. Sc. in Biological Science from the University of Calgary, Calgary, AB.
