Robert Murray

Robert Murray is an international figure in the field of occupational health. After serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps, he became a Medical Inspector of Factories in Manchester. He joined the International Labour Office in Geneva in 1956 in the Occupational Safety and Health Division. In 1962 he became Medical Adviser to the Trades Union Congress in the United Kingdom, and assisted them in the formative years leading up to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. During this time he served as President of the Society of Occupational Medicine and the British Occupational Hygiene Society. Since 1974 he has been an independent consultant in Occupational Health advising a number of companies as well as the E.E.C., the ILO and WHO in addition to acting as an expert in legal cases - on both sides. He served as president of the International Commission on Occupational Health from 1981 to 1987.

Dr. Murray was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1978 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. He has received honours from numerous medical institutions, colleges and universities, including an honorary Doctor of Science from his alma mater, Glasgow University. He has travelled extensively and written widely on occupational health in nearly 150 scientific papers.
