Walter McLean

Walter McLean is one of the founders of the U.N.-based Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), former chair of PGA's International Council and current Chair of the Alumni. He is a former Member of Parliament of the Government of Canada, having been elected to the House of Commons four times (1979, 1980, 1984 and 1988). During his Parliamentary career, he served as Official Opposition Critic for the Department of the Secretary of State. Sworn into the Cabinet in 1984, he served as Secretary of State of Canada, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and Minister of State for Immigration.
Since 1986, he has represented Canada as the Parliamentary Delegate to the United Nations General Assembly, and as Special Representative for African and Commonwealth Affairs. He was elected the first chair of the Parliamentary Sub-committee on Development and Human Rights.
