Ho'oipo De Cambra is a member of the Board of Directors of the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center in Hawaii, promoting the involvement of indigenous people in their own research projects regarding health. As co-founder of the Wai'anae Women's Support Group, she encouraged the publication of women's stories. She is the recipient of the Allan Saunders award which recognizes the contribution of individuals towards the advancement of civil liberties in Hawaii. Involved in developing and implementing the Peace Education Program in public schools in her community, she has worked with the American Friends Service Committee and consults on Training for Transformation Workshops supporting the leadership of indigenous women.

A native Hawaiian, born in Papakolea, a Hawaiian homestead, Ms. De Cambra has been involved in indigenous issues. As a member of the Institute for Advancement of Hawaiian Affairs, she works for the re-emergence of the nation of Hawaii from the present relationship with the United States of America to its full independence. She believes that the process of decolonization can be one of growing in understanding, and full respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people.
