Brief Description
Founded in 1984, this indigenous community has been dedicated to developing new strategies for conservation of forests, protection of the tortoise, and the clean up of their rivers. Overseeing the protection of 70,000 hectares in the Amazon, their efforts have important consequences well beyond their geographic base. [Note: Did not participate in Study Conference in New York, 22-24 Sept. 1995]
