Brief Description

Jinghe County in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region is a poor, minority area with low income and few opportunities for development. Through the formation of Self-Help Women's Saving Groups, the women in the community have managed to improve their household income and community services such as health care and education. By training women and making funds available to support micro-enterprises, the women have become more attentive to population issues, reducing births and increasing the community's financial well being. [Note: Did not participate in Study Conference in New York, 22-24 Sept. 1995]
