Brief Description
The Centre is an outgrowth of a 25 year process started by prisoners in the New York State facilities. Over 85% of the people jailed in the state come from seven neighbourhoods in New York City and seven regions in the state. These communities are identified by race, class, poverty and abject socio-economic conditions. The CJC's program focuses on individual and community empowerment through a non-traditional approach to education and information sharing in order to create the climate for change.
