Brief Description
When faced with demands from combatants to join them, fight with the other side, leave their homes or be killed, the people of one village in Colombia chose a fifth option. They rejected arms, declaring their community a "zone of peace". After rejecting military control by the armed forces of any side, they actively began a dialogue with all the combatants. As they restored their autonomy, they undertook their own economic development activities. Despite the killing of two of their leaders, they have continued their dialogue with all sides and have been an inspiration to other villages.
